Gwinnett Ballet Theatre is Gwinnett County’s oldest nonprofit performing arts organization. Over the years, GBT has experienced many wonderful successes; some recent highlights include the following:
• In March 2004, GBT performed on stage at the Gwinnett Center with New York City’s renowned Joffrey Ensemble. We were very proud that Joffrey chose to include a collaboration with GBT in its 2003-2004 national tour.
• In July 2003, Gwinnett Ballet Theatre’s Pre-Professional Company performed at the world-famous Tanzsommer Dance Festival in Austria. GBT was greatly honored to receive an invitation to audition for Europe’s top dance festival, which features such internationally known professional companies such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Cuban National Ballet, and others. GBT was one of a select few American pre-professional companies chosen to perform in Tanzsommer’s youth program.
• In January 2003, GBT collaborated with the Gwinnett Philharmonic and the Jacqueline Casey Hudgens Center to present the world premiere of Moussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition,” choreographed exclusively for GBT by renowned choreographer Thom Clower. This was the first collaboration of its kind in Gwinnett County.
• Gwinnett Ballet Theatre was a 2002 recipient of a debt elimination grant from the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund. This has enabled GBT to aggressively pursue our short- and long-range goals without the financial pressure that sizable debt places on an arts organization. We are grateful for the confidence that the Metro Arts Fund showed in the GBT mission.
• In July 2001, GBT dancer Alessandra Ball won the Bronze Medal at the Primio Roma International Ballet Competition in Rome, Italy. In doing so, Ms. Ball became one of a select few American female dancers to receive such an honor. She studied at GBT from ages five to 18.
• Recent GBT graduates are now dancing professionally with such esteemed professional companies as Houston Ballet, Ballet Arizona, and North Carolina Ballet Theatre.
