In 2016, Gwinnett Ballet Theatre celebrated 35 year of performing The Nutcracker in Gwinnett! GBT performs 16 shows of the family ballet during the first 3 weeks in December. All, full-time academic ballet students (ages 3 and older) are eligible to audition for The Nutcracker.
Auditions for The Nutcracker are held at the beginning of the school year and are mandatory for all students in Creative Movement through Level V who would like the opportunity to considered for a part in the production. Rehearsals will begin sometime in September and may continue during The Nutcracker season, as needed.
Rehearsal for The Nutcracker are held outside of normal class times. Students are expected to attend their regular classes as well as rehearsals. Students must be on time for rehearsals and may not miss more than 1 or 2 rehearsals. Notice must be given in advance for any missed rehearsals.
All costumes are provided by the school and may not leave the school/theater. Parents are responsible for obtaining any footwear necessary. Some roles require additional costume items not provided by the school.
Students in our Pre-Academic Division will fill the roles of Baby Mice, Pages, and/or Arabian Attendants.
Students in Levels I-II, may be cast as Angels and Pollichinelles.
Students in Levels III-V, may be cast as Party Children, Clara, Fritz, Soldiers, Russian and Chinese Corps.
Older students generally hold lead roles, perform as Corps members in Snow, Spanish, Flowers, as Party Parents, Maids, etc…
GBT is a fully nonprofit school and we rely on Parent volunteers to help our show run smoothly. Parents are needed to help create and maintain props, costumes, to act as Room Mother’s backstage, work Production, the Boutique, Flowers, and Programs, and act as Ushers during the shows.
